Ski trails wide and firm and sunny

After grooming sessions on the 13th, 14th and 15th, trails at Alturas Lake were wide, firm and providing a most enjoyable ski experience. The wet snow and subsequent freeze at the beginning of the week left a frozen crusty surface that has been graded and ginzu groomed repeatedly to good results. Skate skiing was excellent on Friday. Classic tracks were laid on most of the Trail to the Lake, Over the Hill and South Loop and hopefully will be added to with grooming on Saturday along with additional corduroy combing of skate lanes.

Snowfalls on Sawtooth Valley

Over the weekend, the ski trails at Alturas Lake were groomed twice to the delight of many of enthusiastic skiers who described conditions as “out of this world”. With new snow falling on Tuesday and predicted for Wednesday as well, grooming will resume once things let up a bit. ADDENDUM – After the storm, on Wednesday, the 13th of January, all trails were rolled at Alturas and about half the trails at Park Creek were groomed for skate and classic. More grooming for both areas is scheduled for the 14th.

Ski trails groomed multiple times…

On January 7th, the birthday of Albert Bierstadt and the pretty girl from the village, neighbors and friends celebrated with much merriment at the Alturas Lake Ski Area. The news that trails were groomed on both the 6th and 7th was met with great joy by the partygoers and plans for more grooming on the 8th and 9th aroused excitement and eager anticipation among the gathered sport enthusiasts. A cry of “Oh my gosh!” was heard from the birthday girl herself. We cannot but agree.

Come on baby, do the bird with me

On January 5th, National Bird Day, all trails at Alturas lake were compacted and rolled and at Park Creek the front end of the trail system was groomed with good results.
