Season’s end at Alturas Lake…

On Tuesday, the 30th of March, the Trail to the Lake, Over the Hill and South Loop were groomed for Skate and Classic. North Cabin was also groomed for skate and touring but no classic there. As snow melts, tree wells advance, and passage over the bridge narrows, the grooming season is coming to an end. As we enter into April, this will likely be our last weekend of grooming. Don’t miss out on your last chance to ski the grooves and have a barrel of fun.

NEW GROOVES

On Monday, Over the Hill, South Loop and the Trail to the Lake as far as the bridge junction were graded and then ginzu groomed for skate and classic.

KICK AND GLIDE

On Sunday, the 28th of March, all skate lanes at Alturas lake were refreshed with a Ginzu grooming. Classic tracks remain limited to the Trail to the Lake and are sketchy in some areas.

Alturas trails groomed

On Friday, March 26th all trails at Alturas Lake were groomed. The skate lanes all looked great and the Trail to the Lake had classic tracks as well… kind of sketchy as far as the bridge but better from the bridge to the lake.

BEYOND EQUINOX

Over the weekend of March 20th and 21st the cross country trails at Alturas Lake were groomed twice as we slipped beyond equinox, kicking and gliding into the future. Classic tracks ranged from poor and sporadic to totally illusional. Skate lanes were enjoyable enough and crust cruising seemed to be happening. The snow is changing. Whether we have entered a a new zodiacal constellation, the Age of Aquarius, or are just approaching the end of another ski season is not yet clear.
