At the Alturas Lake ski area on January the 6th, in celebration of the feast day of those mystical magi, the three Kings, Balthasar, Melchior, and Gaspar , the previously blocked trails of Wapiti and the Connector were cleared of the last three fallen aspen still sticking out of the deep snow banks. The trails were then packed with three separate passes with the snowmobile only, quickly followed by three passes pulling the roller. The final result was an epiphany, looking divinely skiable but probably still a bit soft. The Trail to the Lake, Over the Hill, and South Loop were also all rolled for skating. And even though wind blown snow skimmed across the open meadows, quickly glazing over corduroy and classic tracks alike, a skate skier arriving at the lake, declared the morphing trail to be “fantastic and so much fun!”
